Vast & Profound is delighted to announce a new class in the series on Death & Impermanence by V&P board member and president, Tenzin Kacho Kiyosaki. Tenzin has been practicing Buddhism for more than 50 years and has been a hospice chaplain since 2008. She is the author of The Three Regrets: Inspirational Stories and Practice Advice for Love and Forgiveness at Life’s End.
Developing awareness of death and impermanence helps us appreciate our lives regardless of how youthful and healthy we are. It is important to have an awareness that death could happen at any time; not just when we are ill or elderly. Baby boomers, my generation, are seniors now so aging, and death is something more on our mind. It could be the reason there is so much more research and information in books, posts, movies on aging and death.
We tend to put off this thought, deny it, spend our days indulging or distracting ourselves on the internet, parties, food, or burying ourselves in our careers, hobbies and study. When we take some time to get in touch with our mortality, we often experience stressful thoughts and feelings of loss, grief, and denial and having to say goodbye.
So why then meditate and study about death and impermanence? When we understand that death will come one day, we also experience how precious and tenuous our lives are, that our time here to build and accomplish our dreams is precious and this can make every day more meaningful, bright, and valuable.
Meditation allows direct insight into your own heart; your own experiences allowing you to get to know yourself, your views, insights, fears, and aspirations. With meditation, we begin to cultivate a personal understanding of the fleeting nature of our lives. Familiarization and practice help us build muscle to live and utilize our lives well. The class will include presentation, meditation and include time for questions and answers.
Join Tenzin on Monday, Sep 18, 2023 from 6 – 7:30pm PST via Zoom, hosted by Vast and Profound. The class is free but offerings are welcome.
